DESCRIPTION
The relationships between students in Year 7 can be determined using statistical measures. In this unit students will survey a sample of their peers, calculate and identify a range of statistical measures and analyse the results to justify their opinion on what is a typical year 7 student. In the context of Identities and Relationships the students will represent similarities and differences in the Year 7 cohort using a range of measurements, charts and calculations.

OVERALL EXPECTATIONS
- Collect and display appropriate data according to a specific survey question
- Make inferences about a population from a sample
- Calculate and analyse measures of central tendency
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Plan and conduct investigations using the statistical inquiry cycle
- determine appropriate variables and data collection methods;
- gather, sort and display multivariate category, measurement and time-series data to detect patterns, variations, relationships and trends;
- compare distributions visually;
- communicate findings using appropriate displays.
- Create tally charts, bar charts, line graphs and pie graphs
- Work with scale to draw graphs.
- Calculating range and mean.
- Identifying median and mode.
- Interpret results in context.
